The Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Sejiro Olalekan James, has publicly cautioned a self-proclaimed All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Hontonyon Bamgbose, against inciting religious tensions within the Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
The monarch issued the strong warning on Wednesday during a significant visit to his palace by Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, who officially announced her candidacy for the chairmanship of Badagry West LCDA under the APC banner. Oba Sejiro minced no words in his address, emphasising the critical need for unity and peaceful coexistence in the region.
He directly addressed Bamgbose, stating, “We must not allow anyone, no matter their position or ambition, to ignite a religious fire in Badagry West.”
In a powerful display of traditional authority, Oba Sejiro declared the unified support of all royal fathers in Badagry West LCDA for Princess Oluremi’s chairmanship bid.
He explained that this endorsement was grounded in principles of fairness and justice, highlighting that Ward C, which Princess Oluremi represents, has not yet had the opportunity to produce a council chairman, unlike other wards in the area.
“Even my sister showed interest in contesting, but I told her clearly that equity must prevail,” the monarch revealed,
Further solidifying his support, Oba Sejiro declared Princess Oluremi the consensus APC candidate and instructed the chief priest of Kweme Kingdom to perform traditional rites in her honour, a significant cultural gesture signifying spiritual endorsement.
Following the visit to the Kweme palace, Princess Oluremi’s campaign team proceeded to the palace of the Oba of Apa. There, her father, Oba Ajose Posii III, shared an emotional revelation, stating that he had initially opposed her political aspirations.
However, he affirmed that the collective decision of the community’s royal fathers had swayed his initial stance, leading to his full support.
