The Nigerian music scene is ever as bustling as the beats, the raves, and those cities. While there are revered supposed idols in the industry, the sound is not shaped alone by these OGs, it is also being shaped and proclaimed by up-and-coming music prodigies, with diverse talents, from soul-levitating artistes, Gen Z-techie producers, Disc Jockeys with magical fingers, swan-like dancers, among others.
One of the most amazing strides is the threading of roads less travelled in the industry; while it is difficult, it makes one make flowers grow for others to enjoy – a path travelled only by the multi-talented. Among a few of the musical polymaths in the Nigerian music industry is Oloye Coldman.
Oloye Peter Oluwamayowa, popularly known by his musical nomenclature, Oloye Coldman, is an astute artiste whose fame and acclamation haven’t come cheap, as many may have thought. His dynamism makes him a singer, songwriter, record producer, entertainment executive, video director/editor, actor, A&R, and entrepreneur. Oloye Coldman, with these talents, has solidified himself as a multi award-winning creative from Ondo State, Nigeria. With a fire-igniting manner of infusing rap with Afrobeats, Oloye Coldman, in just a few years, has penetrated the Nigerian and international scenes with chart-topping singles, electrifying airplays, and thrilling stage performances.
Oloye’s love for music sparked in secondary school (around 2002-2003), leading to his first studio experience in 2007. By 2009-2010, he’d become known as the “Dopest M.C.” at his university. He shared his first mixtape, “Pot of Coldz,” in 2012, and in 2014, he dropped an EP of the same name, also winning “Producer of the Year” at ANUCA awards. A revamped EP in 2018 featured some cool tracks like “No One (feat. Skales),” “Beauty In The Struggle,” and “Behind Closed Doors.” His talent was recognized with the “Artiste of the Year” award at the 2016 Ondo State Music Awards, and he performed at various events. A real highlight was in 2015 when his song “Too Fine” topped the Rhythm FM Lagos charts. Later, in 2020, his “034” EP was a heartfelt project showcasing the talent of other musicians from his home state, Ondo.
In the thumping heart of January 2023, Oloye Coldman’s “Oluwamayowa” was ranked No. 4 on a UK music blog’s Top 10 Albums of 2022. While it meant that the head start was soul-soothing, his “Let Me Know” gained massive traction on a music blog in California, and two of his songs were playlisted on a music blog in New York. In this same month, Oloye Coldman became the first Ondo State Hip-Hop/Rap & Afrobeat artiste to win an international award – the Indie Fam Awards – sponsored by companies in the USA, the UK, and France.
“Let Me Know” got a full week airplay in Paris, France, after having itself a verified space on Audiomack, and being among 15 Spotify playlists in the same February. This same month, he got featured on an EP. March continued with his towering strides in the music scene, while April got his creative talents off beyond borders – performing in Trenton, New Jersey, USA. By May, he got back to his roots, after “killing” his show at Trenton. He again shut down the Millennium College of Education, Akure, with his astounding performance.
June saw a head-swelling increment of his numbers for his Afrobeat smash release, “Anything.” By August, “Anything” hit a spot at No. 31 on the Top 100 chart of Phoenix Radio, UK. The same song, in September, caused a rave in the USA, appearing on Mezz Entertainment Music Monday in New York. “Anything” climbed to No. 5 on Micro Brew Radio UK’s Top 20. Then, after the official release of “Dear God” on November 8, the song was featured on the UK’s New Lease Music blog. After being a guest artiste on Afternoon with Mystique, on Empire Radio, Oloye got an airplay on Adamimogo 93.1 FM, Lekki, Lagos, and also performed at SUNFEST 2023; all in December.
2024 was another real breakthrough year for Oloye! It kicked off in January with a cool preview of “Dear God” on Loop City Slums in the US. But March was truly special – he orchestrated the very first Rap Hip Hop: A Rap Battle in Akure, a fantastic community event made possible with the support of Empire Radio, Crest FM, H.O.E Entertainment, and many others. April saw him champion local talent with the seventh Time Out With AOTG, and May was a whirlwind of performances at H.O.E & Friends, the Foodie Carnival, and another energetic show at Millennium College of Health Technology.
The buzz continued through June and July with major radio play on Empire Radio, Glow FM, and Crest FM. Then came July 19th and the release of his impactful rap single, “I’m Enough,” which really struck a chord with listeners and sparked its own movement. To share it, he embarked on a local radio tour across Crest FM, Glow FM, Empire Radio, and Breez FM, culminating in a show-stopping performance of “I’m Enough” at Dr Smile Live (My RSVP) in Akure on July 31st. What an incredible year of growth and connection.
In August, Oloye Coldman shut down The Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, with his electrifying performances of “I’m Enough,” while it’s marked, too, that he worked at JCLI Radio. In September, this track continued to make waves, and a concurrent global airplay. Oloye Coldman had his name in the Nigerian Tribune, which was a leap in the furtherance of his media presence.
By November 2024, his annual series, “o Moo (The Cypher),” got to see the release of the fourth installment. Oloye Coldman was given his flowers by being awarded the Producer of the Year/Best Song Single at the Industry Awards in Lagos. And to cap off the incredible years, December was just as vibrant! He dropped the official video for “o Moo (The Cypher),” giving his fans a treat. Plus, he brought his energy to the stage at SUNFEST 6.0, got the party going at Rave with DJ Santi; this, alongside some other events.
Literally, 2025 seems still young, even as the first quarter of the year winds up, yet, Oloye Coldman has achieved some enviable feats. In February, he shot the official music video for his sensational song, “I’m Enough,” and this climbed the Top 20 on The Independent Artist Chart Show on Burton Radio UK. “I’m Enough” climbed to No. 1 on the same chart, showing the acclaimed view of the world. In March, also recorded “Issa Jam,” a smash lit single. This was later released on the 11th of April; received with energetic vibes from fans at home and abroad. With a promised album to the world this year, Oloye Coldman is getting set to crest with a daring dart of his musical ingenuity.
Oloye Coldman’s compelling journey across Nigerian and international music spaces highlights his remarkable versatility and creative drive. This true musical polymath has connected with audiences through electrifying songs, memorable performances, and meaningful community contributions, demonstrating the strength of independent artistry across genres. By uniquely fusing Afrobeat and rap with constant innovation, Oloye Coldman stands as an inspiring visionary who continually expands musical possibilities.
