• CAN Urges Citizens To Rise Beyond Fear, Disunity To End Insecurity
As Nigerians celebrate Easter, the Police in Imo and Kogi states have assured members of the public of robust security measures to ensure a peaceful and crime-free celebration.
In Imo, the State Police Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, gave the assurance in a statement, while the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, Miller G. Dantawaye, made the pledge while addressing senior officers of the command at the State Police Headquarters in Lokoja.
Dantawaye directed all area commanders, divisional police officers, and operational commanders to reassess their security strategies and intensify police visibility across major public spaces to guarantee the safety of residents during the festive period.
The commissioner also emphasised the importance of collaboration with other security agencies, stating that joint efforts were underway to maintain law and order throughout the Easter festivities.
He called on all law-abiding citizens to support the police by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities, noting that collective efforts are key to curbing crime.
On his part, Okoye, said the police was collaborating with sister agencies that included military, Nigerians Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to provide adequate security.
“As part of this operation, security personnel have been deployed to key locations, including churches, worship centres, and major highways, where they will conduct patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations. He disclosed that officers to carry out the duty are expected to exhibit the highest level of professionalism.
In addition, Okoye said the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, urged Christians to celebrate responsibly.
“Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines, 0803 477 3600, 08148024755.”
Similarly, in an Easter message, officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) of the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have urged the citizens to rise up beyond fear and disunity to end the insecurity plaguing the north.
The northern CAN in an Easter message by its Chairman, Reverend Joseph Hayab, said the Easter season, beyond its profound spiritual depth, presents a powerful opportunity for reflection on the redemptive sacrifice of Christ. He said his sacrifice was grounded in love, compassion, and a deep commitment to the common good of humanity.
“As we celebrate this Easter, we must also acknowledge the sorrow and grief brought on us by the ongoing violence in some parts of Northern Nigeria particularly in Plateau and Benue states.
“This tragic incident is a reminder of the need for urgent action against all forms of criminal activities in northern states and Nigeria at large.
“While communities must play their part, governments at both the state and federal levels must not remain indifferent,” he said.
