Alaafin denies supremacy clash with monarchs, dismisses viral video

Alaafin-Owoade-

Olubadan, others express worries over Iwo, Ibadan boundary crisis
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, yesterday, faulted the insinuation that he is in a supremacy battle with any monarch, saying that the viral video going round is fabricated.

In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the palace described a recent viral video by Awikonko TV on YouTube as misleading and malicious, warning the public against falling for its false narrative.

Durojaiye said the Alaafin was not entangled in a supremacy battle with the Ooni of Ife or any other traditional ruler.

The palace, therefore, urged the public to ignore the falsehoods being circulated online and remain confident in the leadership of the Alaafin, who remains focused on the development of Oyo and the preservation of Yoruba heritage.

IN another development, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan-In-Council and other critical stakeholders in Ibadanland have expressed concerns over the boundary crisis between Ibadan in Oyo and Iwo in Osun states, respectively.

They made this known in a statement after a meeting held at the Bodija residence of the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

In a statement jointly signed by the media aide to Ladoja, Adeola Oloko and Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade in Ibadan, the state capital, yesterday, the stakeholders submitted that the major reason behind the intractable problem is gold mining, rather than land dispute.

They said: “There is a need for stakeholders’ intervention so as to prevent the crisis from getting out of hand.”

The stakeholders said that “unless drastic action is taken against criminal suspects who destroy lives and property in the areas under reference, there might be no light at the end of the tunnel.

“It has come to our notice that the current crisis in Ogburo is beyond boundary dispute.”

The activities of miners going on in the area are fueling the crisis.

”What we discovered was that there were a lot of mining activities being orchestrated by some sections of Osun who were allegedly supported by prominent traditional rulers in the area.

“What has doused the tension for now is the visit by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police to the area and the suspects arrested. However, many people have been injured since the beginning of the dispute.”

They, however, called on the state government to come to the aid of the people of the area.
