Nursing enrollment in Nigeria jumps from 28,000 to 115,000

Nursing enrollment in Nigeria has jumped from 28,000 to 115,000 within a duration of two years.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) disclosed this on Friday in a statement on its official X account.

“In a major boost to Nigeria’s healthcare and education sectors, annual nursing enrollment has surged from 28,000 in May 2023 to 115,000, following President Bola Tinubu’s initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” NOA wrote.

It added that the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, and Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, announced that the administration has exceeded its initial target of 110,000 nursing students, aligning with its focus on STEMM education.

Dr. Alausa appreciated all stakeholders, including the Nursing Council, teaching hospitals, and ministry staff, for supporting this achievement.

He said it marks a transformative step in meeting both local and global demands for qualified nurses.
