The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has elected Innocent Ohagwa as the president-elect of the institute.
He was unanimously elected by members of the governing council during the institute’s extraordinary meeting of the Council.
He will succeed the incumbent 17th President, Samuel Agbeluyi, whose two-year tenure comes to an end on June 4, 2025.
A statement by the institute’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, said Ohagwa, who is the current Vice President and Chairman of the Finance and General Purpose Committee of the institute, is an experienced tax administrator with over 35 years of experience.
He retired from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as the Coordinating Director of the Support Services Group.
The statement explained that Ohagwa had been an active member of the institute since being admitted as an Associate Member in 1990 and was admitted as a fellow in 1999.
According to the statement, he has served as a facilitator at various times during the institute’s organised Mandatory Professional Training Programme (MPTP), workshops and seminars.
It said he was elected a member of the institute’s governing council in June 2013 and has served in various capacities until his recent election.
At the African regional level, Ohagwa was re-elected as the Honorary Treasurer of the West African Union of Tax Institutes (WAUTI) in February 2025, having previously served a two-year tenure from February 2023 to February 2025.
Ohagwa is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), USA.
