Obasanjo, Salami, others to grace launch of Lamido’s memoir

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is leading a crop of prominent leaders to attend the launch of a political memoir of Jigawa state ex-governor, Sule Lamido.

Preparations for the launch of the book titled “Being True to Myself” has been scheduled to hold in Abuja next Tuesday.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, Chairman of the Book Launch Committee, described the memoir as “a revealing, unapologetic account of Nigeria’s political evolution, filled with drama, suspense, and statesmanship.”

“Lamido has been many things—radical reformer, party loyalist, blunt truth-teller—but above all, he has been true to his principles,” Khabeeb said. “This book captures not just his personal journey, but the turbulent rise of modern Nigeria.”

The launch is to be chaired by former military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), while former Senate President Dr. Iyorchia Ayu is billed to review the book.

According to Khabeeb, “Being True to Myself” offers behind-the-scenes insights into watershed events—from the collapse of the 2nd Republic, the unsteady hands of the military, to the stormy birth of the 4th Republic and the founding of the PDP.

Lamido’s narrative recounts his role in the June 12 saga, his rocky journey through party politics, and his principled stand that led to political persecution and eventual vindication.

Senator Khabeeb painted a vivid portrait of Lamido as a “Fulani son raised in simplicity, but forged in fire,” noting that the memoir chronicles not only triumphs but the painful costs of standing by one’s convictions. “He was targeted, tried, and taunted—but never broken,” Khabeeb declared.

With this launch, Lamido joins the ranks of political chroniclers who have dared to tell the inside story of Nigeria’s evolving democratic experiment—one marked by betrayals, resilience, and unwavering belief in a better tomorrow.
