Customs to strengthen regulatory presence at Snake Island free zone

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, said the Service is in the final stages of documentation to establish a dedicated command at the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone (SIIFZ) to strengthen regulatory oversight and enhance operational efficiency.

Speaking during a recent visit to the zone, Adeniyi pledged to create a new Customs command that will ensure increased revenue generation for the Federal Government and promote seamless trade activities.

The CGC expressed satisfaction with the level of investment on the island and commended Nigerdock and the operators of the SIIFZ for their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

He emphasised the importance of collaboration between Customs and private sector operators in achieving national economic objectives.

“We are looking forward to a symbiotic relationship that will benefit the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Government and Nigerdock as a corporate entity. We are currently finalising all documentation, and I am confident that by my next visit, I will be received by a Customs Area Controller,” Adeniyi stated.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of SIIFZ, Semiu Akorede, expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Service and underscored the significance of the CGC’s visit to the zone’s operational growth.

“Your visit today will add significant value. We have enjoyed the cooperation of Customs officers working with us here and those who come in for specific operations. I can confirm that our engagements have been smooth and free of any rancour,” he noted.

Akorede added that consolidating Customs activities within the zone would support more efficient and seamless operations going forward.
