FOBTOB lauds workers’ contributions to sectoral development

The Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB) has stressed the importance of workers in the development of the sector. The union stated that their contribution to food security, economic stability and public well-being should be respected, acknowledged and rewarded.

Noting that national development is inextricably linked to the welfare of those who create wealth, the union said the voices of workers remain at the forefront of national discourse, especially in periods when the burdens of economic adjustment disproportionately impact the most vulnerable.

National President of FOBTOB, Jimoh Oyibo, in a statement issued to mark the 2025 edition of Workers’ Day, expressed the union’s readiness to engage all stakeholders, including employers, regulators, and the government constructively, to shape policies that foster industrial harmony, enhance social protection, and ensure sustainable livelihoods.

While commending members of the National Executive Council (NEC) for its strategic foresight, relentless advocacy and principled leadership, he said their stewardship has been vital to the progress the union has recorded amid turbulent times.

He urged them to view May Day not solely as a celebration but as an opportunity for critical reflection of their collective strategies, recalibrating their priorities, and recommitting themselves to the defence of workers’ rights with renewed vigour and a unified purpose.

He expressed hope that the celebration would reignite the union’s collective sense of mission and renewed determination to forge a future characterised by decent work, inclusive growth, and social justice.

“In facing these adversities, the courage, resilience, and collective spirit demonstrated by FOBTOB members across the nation have been nothing short of extraordinary. You have exhibited remarkable tenacity in upholding the principles of decent work, equitable remuneration, and safe workplaces, even amid dwindling margins, escalating operational pressures, and policy inconsistency. Your steadfastness amidst such challenges speaks volumes of your commitment to your chosen profession, your union, companies, and the country,” he said.
