Senate committee hires Anyaduba to push reparation, repatriation agenda

The Nigerian Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations has appointed Chukwuebuka Anyaduba as a consultant to support its efforts in pursuing restorative justice and the return of looted African artefacts.

Anyaduba, a development consultant and cultural strategist, confirmed the appointment on his social media page. His role will involve strategic advisory services, stakeholder engagement, diaspora outreach, and media coordination for the committee, which is chaired by Senator Ned Nwoko.

The Senate Committee, inaugurated to advocate for the repatriation of cultural assets taken during colonial and slavery eras, is expected to collaborate with local and international actors to develop policy and promote dialogue on reparations.

Anyaduba is the founder of the Flavours of Nigeria Festival, an annual cultural event held in Canada. The 2024 edition of the festival was attended by members of the diplomatic community and international stakeholders, including former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Speaking on the appointment, Anyaduba emphasized the importance of building international consensus around cultural restitution and reparative justice.

Colleagues in the development and cultural sectors have expressed support for his involvement, citing the need for sustained engagement in global conversations on historical accountability and cultural heritage.
