Navy provides free medical services in Rivers community

As part of activities marking its 69th anniversary, the Nigerian Navy has organised a Medical Rhapsody programme in Rumuolumeni community, Obio-Akpor Local Council of Rivers State.

The event featured free medical services, including health talks, screenings, and the distribution of medicines to about 1,000 beneficiaries. Services provided included health talks on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), blood pressure checks, screenings for diabetes mellitus, Hepatitis B and C, rapid malaria tests, mass deworming, administration of Vitamin A, and distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets.

Commander of NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Cajethan Nnabuchi Aniaku, highlighted the essence of the programme, stating it aimed to enhance civil-military relations between the Navy and the host community. He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision and mission of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, as part of the Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility and its non-kinetic operations under Operation Delta Sanity II.

He further explained that the Rumuolumeni community was chosen for the outreach due to the enduring relationship between the Navy Base and the community.

Members of the community expressed their gratitude for the initiative. Chairman of the Council of Chiefs in Rumuolumeni, Chinedu Orlunwo, who represented the Paramount Ruler, Chukwuemeka Orlumeni, commended the Navy’s efforts.

“This is a very good thing that the community and residents appreciate. They have done so before. The Navy Ship Pathfinder is trying. We appreciate it,” he said. He urged the Navy to sustain such initiatives and assured them of the community’s continued cooperation.
