The Plateau State government has confirmed the collapse of Jos railway project fixed with N600 million during test-run. Commissioner for Transport, Jatau Davou Gyang, who made the disclosure in Jos, explained that the job was fully funded by the statement, stating that no levy whatsoever was collected from any individual for the revamping, rehabilitation and refurbishing of the dilapidated project.
“Unfortunately, after the experts invited from the Railway Corporation in Lagos finished their assignment, the Jos railway broke down again during test-run,” he said.
The commissioner told journalists that the incident did not mean that the experts had failed in their job. On the cost of the 30 metro buses purchased by the state government to cushion the transportation problems of pedestrians, the commissioner was not forthcoming.
He disabused the minds of some people who believed that the buses were donated by the Federal Government. Explaining that they were exclusively purchased and paid for by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the commissioner submitted that even the CNG buses promised to the 36 states were yet to arrive.
In her opening remarks, the Coordinating Commissioner in charge of information, Joyce Ramnap, said after years of inactivity, the yearly ministerial briefing has returned.
She argued that the activity bridges the gap between government and the people, as it serves to provide access to information to promote accountability in public service.
Ramnap noted that the “Time Is Now” Administration of Mutfwang has embarked on road construction or rehabilitation, re-engineering the transport sector, upgrading health facilities, revamping agricultural services or prioritising social welfare. The people have no doubt of being touched in many areas of need.” The commissioner said all these happened in spite of the unprovoked attacks in some communities.
