The Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB), in collaboration with the Daramola Dynasty Foundation (DDF), BlueBlue Football Academy, Union Bank, and other partners, hosted its 27th yearly Sports Day at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, with over 1,000 participants.
The athletes competed for honours in long jump, tug of war, March past, 50-metre races, skittle games, walking races, rounders, relays, and a football match, all aimed at showcasing the abilities of the visually impaired.
Speaking at the event, FNSB Chairperson, Mrs. Arit Tunde-Imoyo, emphasised the need for inclusive sports, better school facilities, scholarships, and infrastructure support.
“There is a need for equal opportunities and inclusiveness for people living with disabilities. Events like this prove that ability exists beyond sight.”
The Founder of DDF and Daramola Football Academy, Mr. Olanrewaju Daramola, shared a personal story, saying: “This marks the second year of our partnership with FNSB. Every human being deserves the opportunity to develop their talents. Disability should never limit one’s dreams.”
Earlier, the Vice President of DDF and BlueBlue, Mrs. Oluwaseun Oladimeji, reiterated her organisation’s alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“We are committed to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and empowerment for individuals with visual impairment. There is productivity in disability — nobody should be left behind.
Union Bank’s Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, Mrs. Olufunmilola Aluko, highlighted the bank’s efforts through its CSR platforms.
“Through our Edu360 initiative, we promote inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning. Our partnership with FNSB reflects value in SDG 4, 10, and 17.”
Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the VTC Board of Governors, Mrs. Ayopeju Njideaka, noted: “The centre remains a beacon of hope, excellence, and transformation.”
