‘Empowered, well-trained workforce key to building public service’

Commits to making agriculture more attractive
Lagos State Government has said that an empowered and well-trained workforce is key to building a vibrant public service.

The state’s Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, who stated this, at the weekend, during the opening of a three-day Bootcamp for learning and development schedule officers in the state public service in Lekki, themed “Cultivating Growth through Learning and Development,” praised the initiative as a strategic step toward institutionalising structured learning.

He described the event as both “timely and timeless,” emphasising the need to move away from ad-hoc training efforts to a more strategic and long-term approach to workforce development.

Ayantayo, however, commended his ministry’s efforts in promoting a culture of continuous learning, professional development and knowledge sharing across the state’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

In his keynote address, the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Establishments and Training, Bibilomo Olushekun, emphasised the need to bridge skills’ gaps and leverage emerging technologies, like Artificial Intelligence (AI), to elevate the performance of the state’s workforce.

Also, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Establishments and Training, Olubusola Abidakun, noted that the Bootcamp’s primary objective is to build capacity among training officers, as well as ensure that learning and development initiatives directly support government’s goals.

IN another development, the state has pledged to continue to make agriculture more attractive to the younger generation to boost the sector and ensure food security.

The state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, who stated this during the Agrinnovation Hangout 6.0, at the weekend, noted that the state had witnessed tremendous strides in food security and sustainability since the inception of the club.

She said: “The Lagos Agrinnovation Hangout is a hangout of like-minded individuals, and young people in the food space. We want a situation where there is no distinction between a farmer and a logistics provider or a cold-chain solutions service provider.”

Olusanya reiterated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s continuous support for the agriculture sector, urging the young ones to take advantage of the benefits.

In her speech, the Consul-General/Head of Trade Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, Jette Bjerrum, promised continuous support for agribusiness in the state and country at large.

Also speaking, Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Agriculture, Dr Oluwarotimi Fashola, urged the agro-innovators to take advantage of the hangout to learn as much as possible.
