Jigawa State Government, in conjunction with UK Educational Aids, has trained 1,699 teachers and head teachers on modern classroom management techniques and digital teaching techniques.
Speaking while declaring the programme at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse, the state commissioner for Basic Education, Dr Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, said the training was part of the state government’s effort to reform the state’s basic education for qualitative growth and development of the educational sector.
He explained that the training is carried out under “Jigawa UNITE Project”, an initiative managed programme in collaboration with a UK-based firm to dramatically change the statistics of the state’s learning outcomes in meeting the global best teaching methodology practice.
According to him, 1,449 teachers and 250 head teachers will participate in an intensive induction focused on effective classroom practices, learner engagement, and the use of digital teaching tools for effective teaching and learning in all the schools across Jigawa State.
“The first phase of the training has been completed in Dutse, where a 10-day Wave 1 training for teachers and school leaders was conducted, while the next waves of training will take place in Gumel and Hadejia zones of the state,” Danzomo said.
While shedding more light on the initiative, the official from a UK firm implementing the project in collaboration with the state Ministry for Basic Education, Mr Olusanya Omojola, said, “Jigawa UNITE” was aimed at raising teaching standards, improving learning outcomes, and modernising the learning environment.
He noted that JigawaUNITE is a long-term investment aimed at improving children’s future and the state’s education system.
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Jigawa State chapter, Comrade Abdulkadir Yunusa, said the programme is already rekindling their hope in upgrading their skills and knowledge for greater impact in teaching and learning for the betterment of the country.
