IGP queries Delta police over untidy probe into death of governor’s aide

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit has reportedly queried the Delta State Police command over its botched investigation of the death of former special adviser on Trade and Export to Governor Sheriff Oborevweri, late Shimite Bello Love.

The Guardian had reported that the lady was allegedly murdered on Easter Day at their residence in Asaba, Delta State.

The Police in Abuja waded into the case following a formal petition by the head of Shitime’s family, Chief Kimashinor Nwakalo-Imu, who alleged that the Police in Delta carried out an untidy and unprofessional job.

The Guardian learnt that the main suspect, her husband, Pastor David Favour Love, mysteriously escaped from Police custody in Asaba, a development that prompted the family of late Shimite to petition the IGP.

According to the petitioner, Nwakalo -Imu, the IGP’s monitoring unit has since taken over the case file from the Asaba command, as well as a pharmacist who, on the instruction of the suspect, Mr. Love, administered both the oral and intravenous medication to Shimite, 24 hours before her death.

He said the pharmacist has since stated, upon questioning, that she had advised the suspect to quickly take Shimite to the hospital as her condition, from what she could see, was critical—advice the suspect declined until she died in her bedroom.

“The pharmacist further stated that she did not take any vital signs, like her BP, temperature, to determine her state of health, nor did she have any previous health records of hers before administering the said medication.

“In the meantime, Mr. Love, the main suspect who kept Shimite locked up for three days in their bedroom, denying access to her from other family members until she died, is currently on the run from the police.

“The Asaba police command, who set him free, cannot locate him as all his known lines have been switched off.”

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, said the case has been transferred to the Force Headquarters, and it is beyond me to comment on the matter.

He clarified that the “Suspect did not escape from custody, but he only jumped bail, which is different from escaping from custody.”
