Veteran Patience Okon-George (Cross River) this evening destroyed the field in the women’s 400m at the National Sports Festival, storming to a big Season’s Best (SB) of 51.60s (unofficial).
She smashed the Festival Record of 51.76s set by Imaobong Nse Uko. It was also her fastest time since 2018.
Happy Rasheed (Rivers), from lane 8, snatched 2nd place, while Miracle Uwem (Lagos), out of lane 1, placed 3rd.
Meanwhile, Team Delta swimmer Timipame-ere Akiayefa has won her 7th gold medal in the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State. She grabbed another gold in the 50-meter Butterfly Women.
The dark-complexioned Timi had told The Guardian shortly after winning her third gold medal on Day 1 of the swimming event that her best was yet to come.
An official of Team Delta revealed then that if Timi gets her tactics right, she might equal or surpass the 8-gold medal record set by Blessing Forcados of Team Delta 19 years ago when Ogun State hosted the National Sports Festival tagged Gateway 2006.
