‘Nigeria First Policy to accelerate energy sector growth’

The Chairman of MOJEC International, Mojisola Abdul, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unveiling of the ‘Nigeria First Policy’, describing it as a bold and timely intervention.

According to her, the development has the potential to transform Nigeria’s industrial and energy landscape. The policy, which mandates the prioritisation of locally manufactured goods and services in procurement, is expected to boost domestic production and foster economic independence.

Abdul noted that the initiative represents a major step towards achieving self-reliance in critical sectors, including power and energy. She emphasised that the directive aligned perfectly with MOJEC’s long-standing commitment to local content and national capacity building, adding: “For us at MOJEC, this is more than just policy, it is a philosophy we live by. As our guiding phrase goes, ‘Africa, and by extension Nigeria, must begin to produce what it consumes.’ This mindset has shaped our operations, investments, and impact in the Nigerian power sector for over two decades.”

Abdul described the policy as a strategic and transformative initiative that will unlock the vast potential of Nigerian industries, calling it a critical step towards national industrial rebirth. She added that, as an indigenous metering and energy solutions provider, MOJEC International is fully aligned with the policy and ready to support its implementation.

She highlighted that MOJEC is one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous metering manufacturers, having played a key role in the country’s metering rollout by supplying over three million smart meters nationwide and pioneering the deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS) in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

Through various national programmes including CAPMI, MAP Phases I & II, and the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP), MOJEC has partnered with several electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to improve access to accurate billing and reduce aggregate technical, commercial, and collection (ATC&C) losses across the sector. Under MAP and NMMP alone, it has deployed over 1.2 million meters since 2019.

She further noted that the company also operates a state-of-the-art plastics manufacturing subsidiary, which produces up to two million meter boxes yearly as part of its backward integration strategy.

The General Manager of VSolaris, Ayodeji Oladeji, also noted that Tinubu’s Nigeria First Policy would lead to self-reliance, technological advancement, and inclusive development.

“The initiative marks a significant milestone in the quest for sustainable energy access in Nigeria. We are not just bringing power to these communities, we’re unlocking new economic and social opportunities for businesses, schools, and healthcare systems. The mini-grid is expected to power thousands of homes and businesses, enabling economic activities, education, and healthcare services,” Oladeji said.  He stressed the policy is a catalyst for driving localisation, job creation, and investment across Nigeria’s power value chain.
