Newly established record label, MOJO RECORDS, has officially unveiled fast-rising music act TyTunz as its lead artiste, as the company kicks off its mission to discover and develop fresh voices in Afrobeats and Afro-fusion.
The label, founded by Osaigbovo Thompson Samson, made the announcement over the weekend, describing TyTunz as a “rare talent with a distinct sound and compelling story.” The move signals MOJO RECORDS’ intent to establish itself as a force in the growing Nigerian and African music industry.
TyTunz, born Oladipupo Oluwatoyosi Samuel, hails from Benin City, Edo State. The young artiste discovered his passion for music early, growing up in a Christian home as the third of four children. Despite initial opposition from his parents, who were hesitant about his pursuit of a music career, TyTunz remained focused. He worked several side jobs—including at cybercafés—to fund his studio time and music recordings.
A key turning point came when he recorded at the legendary Sir Victor Uwaifo’s studio in Benin, where he refined his sound and matured as a performer. By the age of 14, he had already co-founded a church music group at the Church of God Mission, showcasing his leadership and early musical drive.
TyTunz officially made his debut in January 2019 with the single “Jeje”, a track that gained traction in Benin City and beyond, marking him as one to watch. His music fuses Afrobeats, reggae, and highlife, drawing inspiration from global and African icons like Michael Jackson, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Barrister.
Speaking on the signing, MOJO RECORDS founder Osaigbovo Thompson Samson noted that the label is not just interested in commercial hits but is focused on grooming artistes with depth, originality, and global potential. “We’re building a platform that balances structure with creativity, ensuring our artistes are strategically positioned for long-term success,” he said.
For TyTunz, the partnership marks the beginning of a new chapter—one backed by a dedicated team with a clear vision. As MOJO RECORDS makes its debut in the Nigerian music industry, the label is banking on TyTunz’s sound, passion, and storytelling to lead its charge.
With plans to shake up the local and international scenes, both the label and its new lead act are setting their sights on a lasting legacy in African music.
