Shehu Sani urges harassed Nigerian students in US to return home

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has advised Nigerian students facing threats and harassment by United States authorities to pack their bags and return home.

Reacting to reports of daily bullying and harassment of foreign students by US immigration agents on his X handle on Monday, Sani urged Nigerian students to take the bold step of returning home and continue their education in any of the public or private universities.

The senator wondered why any student would choose to remain in a country where they are not welcomed, when it is clear to all and sundry that studying requires a conducive environment.

”Nigerian students in the US facing threats and harassment by the authorities should come back home and continue with their studies in our public or private universities,” Sani said on X

“There is no point in insisting on staying where you are not welcome. This is the Trump era, deal with it.”

Trump administration has said repeatedly that visas are a “privilege” and can be revoked at any time for a wide variety of reasons.

Recently, a federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s move to stop Harvard from enrolling international students, hours after Harvard filed an emergency petition, arguing that the ban would cause serious harm to the university and its students.

Also, the state department directive ordered US embassies globally to immediately stop scheduling visa interviews for foreign students while it prepares to implement expanded social media screening for all international visa applicants.
