The 1995 graduating set of Ijeshatedo Boys Secondary School (IBSS), Lagos, returned to their alma mater on Saturday, May 31, 2025, to commission a renovated classroom block and restored electricity supply. The event, which doubled as a reunion, was held on the school premises and drew participation from both alumni and school officials.
The renovated block, previously abandoned, was furnished and restored to use by the 1995 Set as part of a larger effort to contribute to the school’s development. Electricity was also restored after a long-standing power issue was resolved by the group.
Speaking at the commissioning, Mr. Feyisayo Adeniyi, Secretary of the IBSS 1995 Set, explained that the project was rooted in appreciation for the role the school played in shaping the lives of its students.
“IBSS was founded 44 years ago, and it is remarkable that our set has taken on a project of this scale,” Mr. Adeniyi said. “Our teachers and the current principal have confirmed that no other set has made such a transformative impact before now.”
He added that the electrical repairs were a response to persistent challenges faced by the school, which had affected the learning environment.
Mr. Adeniyi emphasised that the group’s involvement goes beyond physical upgrades. “We are intentional and practical. This is not a one-off. The well-being of our members is a top priority, and we are committed to fostering a vibrant network—one that encourages collaboration on business, mentorship, policy insights, and even light-hearted banter.”
Vice President of the association, Mr. Muyiwa Adesanya, said the idea for the intervention began after members visited the school to assess its condition.
“The school pointed out an abandoned classroom block, and we took it upon ourselves to transform it into a functional, modern space for learning,” he said.
The school’s principal, Pastor Olugbenro Daniel, commended the 1995 Set for their initiative and said it would enhance the school’s academic atmosphere.
“I sincerely pray for strength, unity, and continued resources for this noble set. They have set a new benchmark,” he said.
Junior Secondary School principal, Mr. Ayano Adeniyi, also expressed appreciation, noting the standard of the renovation. He gave assurances that the classrooms would be used effectively and maintained.
The event concluded with group photographs, music, food, and shared memories, as the alumni marked their return with contributions aimed at both development and lasting connection.
