Fast-growing Afrobeat singer, Joel Ojua, better known as Joevicmaskoff, has revealed that he is currently working on new visuals that’ll blow every mind with the collaborations set to hit the market soon.
Referred to as Joevic among his folks revealed that his talent was shaped by his upbringing, which was characterised by challenges, while growing up around local street music. According to him, he now found himself chosen by a career he now sacrifices everything for—to become a reckoning force.
“My childhood was filled with both struggles and joy — from hearing local street music to helping out at home. All those experiences shaped my voice, my drive, and my hustle and gave me a better version of myself to do more to shape my brand,” Joevic said.
“Music found me. I’ve always been drawn to sound, rhythm, and the emotions they carry. I officially started recording professionally in the year 2020/2021. I’m into Afrobeat/ R&B / Street Pop / etc., but I’m also not afraid to experiment. I work solo mostly, but I collaborate often with my crew when there’s an opportunity.
”I don’t have a band apparently, but I am building my brand, which we can call JVCMOMUSIC,” he said
The gifted entertainer has spent the last few years preparing for the stardom ahead of him, honing his skill, releasing singles and building capacity for the weight of expectations in the close future.
“I’ve got new music coming soon, visuals that’ll blow your mind, and a lot of collaborations in the works. I just want to thank everyone who’s been supporting me. We’re only just getting started. Stay locked in the journey is about to get even more exciting,” the burgeoning singer said.
“In the last few years, I’ve been building, dropping singles like WYou “GOLD DIGGER” Rock your body many more, which are unreleased, but with the development I’m ready to give to the world the food I have in my pot. performing at shows and growing my sound. Now, I’m working on a bigger project, possibly planning more visuals and collaborations to take my music beyond borders,” Joevic stated.
Joevicmaskoff, who said he is not afraid to take on other genres of music to reflect his all-around talent, is, however, convinced he is ready for the big stage.
He lamented the lack of support for up-and-coming singers in the Nigerian music industry, including himself, explaining the sacrifices he and his contemporaries have to make to be heard.
“The biggest challenges are visibility, funding, and getting the right support systems. As artists, we pour everything into our craft but don’t always get the backing we need. I believe more investment in the creative industry and platforms for emerging artists would change the game. We need a structure that protects and promotes talent from the ground up,” bemoaned Joel Ojua
“Letting go of comfort; choosing music over a ‘safe path’, be it a 9-5 or other expectations from family and society. That decision comes with sacrifices, but it also gives me the freedom to live my purpose.
