Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially flagged off the construction of the State Judiciary Village, aimed at providing convenient and secure accommodation for judicial officers to enhance their efficiency and service delivery.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place along Idongesit Nkanga Avenue (Ring Road III) in Uyo.
Speaking at the event, Governor Eno described the Judiciary Village as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and institutional development.
“This project represents our belief in inclusive governance. The judiciary plays a vital role in promoting justice and advancing development in our state. This is the first major task we are undertaking as we begin our third year in office,” the governor stated.
He reaffirmed the collaborative relationship between his administration and the judiciary, noting that it aligns with the ARISE Agenda—his governance blueprint designed to deliver democratic dividends across all sectors.
“Though we uphold the principle of separation of powers, on issues concerning growth, shared prosperity, peace, unity, and inclusive governance, we are fully aligned,” he said.
Eno explained that the Judiciary Village is part of his administration’s broader initiative to ensure judicial officers live in secure, dignified conditions that enable them to perform their constitutional duties without fear or hindrance.
“This was not a demand from the judiciary, but we saw the need and acted on it. In addition to this, we have begun construction of residences for Local Government Council Chairmen. The first was recently commissioned in Eket, and work will soon begin in the other 30 LGAs,” he said.
The Governor also announced plans to construct Legislative Quarters and residences for members of the State Executive Council, emphasizing that these projects underscore his administration’s commitment to the welfare of all arms of government.
He warned the public against encroaching on government-acquired lands or constructing buildings on unapproved plots, particularly on waterways, stating that such structures will be demolished without compensation.
“It is your responsibility to verify the status of any property you intend to acquire. Do not build or buy land without proper approval,” the Governor said.
He commended the people of Ifa Ikot Okpon for their cooperation in making land available for the Judiciary Village and advised that only judicial officers should reside within the estate, as the facility is exclusively reserved for them.
Expressing the judiciary’s gratitude, the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaete F. Fabian-Obot, thanked the Governor for his unwavering support and described him as a “promise keeper” and a father figure to all Akwa Ibom people, regardless of ethnicity, political affiliation, or social status.
She also lauded the host community for their sacrifice in providing the land, which she said would help realize the Governor’s vision for a stronger, more efficient justice system.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by members of the State Executive Council, political leaders, traditional rulers, business executives, and a large crowd of citizens.
