APC chieftain hails Tinubu on economic reforms

•Party in Abia council compiles President’s activities for re-election
•President has done nothing for S’East, can’t secure 25% vote in 2027, say Igbo elders

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Architect Christian Asaga, yesterday, said that the economic reforms introduced by Tinubu, which include the removal of fuel subsidy, are making a meaningful impact on the people, noting that the President has done well.

In a chat with journalists in Abakaliki, Asaga noted that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has risen while inflation is drastically going down, pleading with Nigerians to support the President.

He noted that the problem with Nigerians is that they are always in a hurry to see results, stressing that the people are happy that there are positive economic results.

ALSO, the Ikwuano Council chapter of the APC in Abia State is said to be compiling Tinubu’s positive activities in office believing it would impact his positively impact his re-election in 2027.

A top party chieftain in Ikwuano Local Council of Abia State, Sam Onuigbo, the immediate past two-term member of the House of Representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia Constituency made this known to The Guardian.

He said that the compilation (compendium) of the President’s deeds, which he described as unprecedentedly impacting on political, economic, social, educational, and infrastructural development, among others, across the country will be disseminated to the public to educate Nigerians, especially as they apply to the South-East region.

MEANWHILE, the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has failed to deliver any tangible development to the South-East.

The elders warned that given the current state of affairs, the APC may struggle to secure even 25 per cent of the votes in the South-East in 2027. Secretary General of the forum, Prof. Charles Nwekeaku, declarared in an exclusive interview with The Guardian yesterday. He said the current APC administration has neglected the region’s infrastructural and economic needs.

The don was responding to the argument by some South-East politicians that Tinubu has done enough for the region to deserve re-election. For instance, during the 2025 Sallah celebration with the Ebonyi Muslim community in Abakaliki, the state capital, Minister of Works David Umahi hailed the impact of the President in the region and across the country. Umahi credited Tinubu with reversing years of federal neglect in the South-East.

“Before now, many South-East states had no federal projects. But today, the federal presence is visible across the region. That is true national integration,” Umahi said.

But Nwekeaku dismissed such claims as dishonest and unrepresentative of the people’s sentiment. The don insisted that in 2027, the South-East will vote for merit, accountability, and good governance and not party loyalty.

He said: “These politicians represent themselves. They are selfish. They don’t represent the people. Now, I ask you, go to the South-East. I just came back yesterday. I missed my flight.

“I came back by road. Every 100 meters, there is a police checkpoint or military checkpoint. I’m saying 100 metres in the South-East. And the road is terrible.
