The Queen of the Rosary Gboko Old Girls’ Association (QROGA) has condemned the killings in Benue State by suspected herdsmen, describing the attacks as acts of ‘ethnic cleansing and land grabbing’.
In an open letter dated June 15, 2025, and signed by the National President of the association, Dr Monica Eimunjeze, said the killings were brutal, senseless and unjustified.
The group noted that the situation has forced thousands of families into displacement and trauma, with many now living in shelters scattered across Benue communities.
“This we unequivocally characterise as ethnic cleansing and land grabbing,” the association said.
QROGA, made up of former students of Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko, said it was compelled to speak out over the silence of the government in the face of increasing attacks in the state.
The group called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to protect lives and ensure the safety of residents in rural areas of the state. It also demanded that perpetrators be brought to justice and made to face the full weight of the law.
“We demand that government takes concrete and immediate actions to protect lives and ensure the safety and security of Benue State’s citizens, particularly in rural areas.
“The perpetrators must be held accountable, and affected communities must receive support,” the statement added.
QROGA further urged security agencies to increase their presence in the affected areas and take proactive measures to prevent more bloodshed.
While expressing solidarity with the people of Benue, the association said it was not just speaking as observers, but as citizens who have a strong connection to the state.
“Our members are alumni of Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko, right in the heart of Benue State. We are not bystanders,” it stated.
The group appealed to the Benue State Government, National Assembly members, President Bola Tinubu, and the international community to act swiftly before the violence spreads further.
“This carnage has the potential to destabilise not only the state, but the entire country,” it warned.
QROGA assured the people of Benue of its continued support and advocacy for justice, while urging them to remain resilient in the face of adversity.
“We will continue to amplify your voices, advocate for your rights, and demand justice for the victims,” the statement read. “Every citizen has the right to live without fear of violence, and where justice and accountability are served.”
