The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Ojo, Badagry, Agbara (OBA) District Society, on Saturday June 14, 2025 inaugurated Dr. Adesina Oluwaropo as its 7th Chairman.
In his acceptance speech, Oluwaropo, also a Pastor, said that his administration is committed to ushering in significant progress under the guiding theme of Professional Excellence and Economic Prosperity (PEEP).
He stated that his administration’s strategic approach is encapsulated in the principle : Minimum cost and Maximum benefit.
The Chairman said given the lean financial position of the district, his administration will pursue an aggressive revenue generation drive by exploring innovative, sustainable sources of income to strengthen the district financial base.
Oluwaropo mentioned that he was determined to acquire a landed property for the district to meet the quest of its members for a permanent secretariat.
He stressed that the new administration will also priorize members’ growth through targeted technical training, collaborative initiatives and timely access to relevant information.
According to him, by leveraging the district’s Unique Selling Points (USPs) ,the current EXCO shall embark on a vigorous membership drive aimed at moving the district from its current “Grade C” classification to becoming one of the largest and most vibrant districts.
“I am fully aware that this role comes with significant challenges and expectations. However, I am confident that with the capable and committed minds that make up the new EXCO, we shall rise to the occasion and achieve great success together,” the Chairman said.
Oluwaropo thanked the ICAN president, body of past Chairmen of the district, colleagues, EXCO, members of the investiture planning committee and every individual or group who worked diligently or contributed to the planning and execution of the investiture.
In an address, Mallam Haruna Yahaya, the 61st President of ICAN congratulated Oluwaropo and other members of the executive on the significant milestone in their career.
Yahaya also thanked the outgone executive team led by Alh. Lukman Ajibola, for their hard work, and relentless commitment to the ideals of ICAN and for striving to ensure that the impact of ICAN continues to be felt in the economy of OBA.
The ICAN president charged Oluwaropo and his team to remain dedicated to the virtues that qualified them to lead the OBA District Society and ensure to continue to uphold the highest level of integrity and accuracy which has always been instrumental in distinguishing ICAN members from mere professionals.
“As a hub of professional excellence, the OBA District Society has the potential to play a transformative role in driving and supporting sustainable economic growth in this environment.
“Being a gateway to West African trade routes and an industrial hub, we believe our members in this jurisdiction can enhance economic integration by promoting sound financial practices, efficient resource management, and compliance with global accounting,”he said.
In his remark, Engr. Abiodun Ajisafe, Chairman, Davenport MFB, congratulated Oluwaropo,while expressing confidence that his leadership would be marked by excellence.
Ajisafe said: “your dedication, passion and commitment would serve as a guiding light to our members and the broader community.
He urged the new executives to embrace the journey with zeal and excellence, while forging ahead with collective commitment to innovation, integrity and collaboration in pursuit of professional excellence.
In his keynote address, Mr David Adeoye, Managing Director/CEO of Pivotal Partners, urged Chartered Accountants to always put value at the centre of their pursuit for economic creativity.
Adeoye stated that as the roles of accountants becomes more diverse and system driven, the reliance on technology poses risk to individual accountants, hence Chartered Accountants must anticipate change, adapt to changing conditions and create change.
“Very importantly, Chartered Accountants must extract meaning and create valuable outcomes from the output of machine work, to survive, compete and excel in the years ahead,”he said.
