Gunmen kill herder, rustle cattle in Borno

Suspected armed rustlers have killed a herder and carted away an unspecified number of cattle in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security analyst and counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, gathered from sources that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 10:00 p.m in Jewu bush, near Jakana town.

According to Makama, sources said the victim, identified as Mohammed Audu, 31, was attacked by unknown gunmen while tending to livestock.

He sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the General Hospital in Jakana, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Makama added that his brother, Sanda Audu, reported the incident to the security the following morning. The assailants were said to have fled with a large number of cattle to an unknown destination.

Following the attack, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, Police, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters were deployed to the area.

They visited the scene, documented evidence and commenced search operations for both the suspects and the rustled animals.

According to Makama, the victim’s corpse was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
