CHGC expands gas pipeline by 5.1km in Port Harcourt

Central Horizon Gas Company Limited (CHGC), a subsidiary of Axxela Limited, has commissioned a new 5.1-kilometre natural gas pipeline in Port Harcourt, reinforcing the Federal Government’s energy transition drive and bolstering industrial activity in the South-South region.

The pipeline expansion, which runs through Azikiwe to Reclamation Road in the Bundu-Ama Community, increases CHGC’s total pipeline network to 21 kilometres. With this development, the company has successfully connected several new customers, including major industrial players from various sectors, to piped natural gas, a move that will improve energy reliability and reduce costs for manufacturers.

Managing Director of Axxela Gas Distribution, Kehinde Alabi, said the expansion isn’t just about building gas infrastructure but about powering progress.

“For us at Axxela, every additional pipeline kilometre laid reinforces our commitment to fueling the growth of industries, promoting economic advancement, and enabling a sustainable energy future. Accessible and cost-effective energy access is critical to industrialisation, and we are proud to be championing and contributing actively,” Alabi said.

He further noted that Axxela’s long-standing expertise in navigating challenging terrains to deliver gas infrastructure is now driving energy access in the South-South, a region ripe for industrial transformation.

“This same depth of expertise is now shaping the energy landscape in the South-South, where access to sustainable energy is essential for driving the region’s next phase of industrial development,” he said.
