Police arrest cultist in possession of firearm in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist in possession of a firearm during a raid in Abeokuta. The spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement yesterday.

She stated that the arrest followed credible intelligence received on June 27, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., indicating that members of the Eiye Confraternity were holding a clandestine meeting with suspected criminal intent at the Saje Area of Car Wash, Abeokuta.

Operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit were swiftly deployed to the scene. “On arrival, one suspect, Ismail Afolabi, was found in possession of a cross-body bag containing a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun loaded with live ammunition. He was apprehended while attempting to flee,” Odutola stated.

Preliminary investigations have commenced, and efforts are underway to apprehend other accomplices linked to the meeting.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to eradicating cult-related violence,” the spokesperson added.
