Brig-Gen Kapeh Alwali Kazir (Retd.) has advised President Bola Tinubu to adopt strong political will with strong commitment in resolving insecurity in the northern part of the country, as against the declaration of a state of emergency
Fielding questions from reporters recently, Kazir kicked against the demand for a state of emergency by the Northern Elders Forum, and called for the government to deploy more troops to affected areas, provide sophisticated surveillance equipment for real-time intelligence and engage in effective international diplomacy to deprive criminals of resources
He warned that no state governor would back the demand for a state of emergency, given the significant investments they have already made to address the security situation.
”I believe with proper equipment, support, and clear directives, the troops can successfully tackle the security challenges as long as the Federal Government is committed to applying all instruments of national power to achieve the desired outcome.
”Declaring a state of emergency would not be necessary to address the security situation in the North. Government must deploy more troops to affected areas, provide sophisticated surveillance equipment for real-time intelligence and engage in effective international diplomacy to deprive criminals of resources,” the retired army general stated
