Signature Bank Limited has announced the appointment of Nixon Iwedi as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Tijjani Borodo, said Iwedi’s appointment aligns with the Bank’s long-term vision to reposition itself as a formidable player in Nigeria’s banking industry. His appointment has been approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Iwedi brings with him over 28 years of experience across commercial and corporate banking, global transaction services, and compliance. He has held various senior leadership positions in top financial institutions, both locally and internationally.
Prior to this role, Iwedi was the pioneer Executive Director and Executive Compliance Officer at Globus Bank, where he played a pivotal role in the bank’s expansion into commercial and corporate banking.
He began his banking career with Guaranty Trust Bank in 1997 before moving to Access Bank Plc in 2002. At Access Bank, he served in several leadership roles including Group Head, Global Transaction Banking; Group Head, Large Conglomerates; and Zonal Head, Commercial Banking Group, Port Harcourt.
In 2009, he was seconded to the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO) in The Hague as Senior Investment Officer, where he gained significant international exposure in deal structuring and risk management.
Iwedi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Port Harcourt, and MBA degrees from Bangor University, UK, and Rivers State University of Science and Technology. He is an alumnus of INSEAD (France) and IMD (Switzerland), and is a certified member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), as well as the Chartered Banker Institutes of Scotland and Wales. He is also a Fellow of the National Institute of Credit Administration (FICA).
