AAC accuses LASIEC officials of frustrating opposition candidates
Lagos State House of Assembly has summoned the state’s attorney-general, Lawal Pedro, and Solicitor-General, Hameed Olanrewaju, to appear before a joint committee, following a contentious letter from the Ministry of Justice regarding the commencement date of the Local Government Administration Law 2025.
Speaker of the House, Dr Mudashiru Obasa, announced the invitation, emphasising the need to clarify the executive’s position on a law already assented to.
IN another development, the African Action Congress (AAC) has raised the alarm over what it described as deliberate efforts by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to disenfranchise its candidates and other opposition candidates through administrative delays and confusing verification processes ahead of the July 12, 2025 council elections.
In a statement signed by the Lagos State AAC Chairman, Ayoyinka Oni, the party accused LASIEC of bias and inefficiency, calling into question the credibility of the entire electoral process.
He criticised the introduction of new verification guidelines by LASIEC without prior notice.
According to him, despite submitting all necessary documents earlier, AAC candidates were instructed to appear for verification on Thursday, June 26, 2025, only to be ambushed with last-minute requirements when they arrived.
