Oyo to revolutionise agric sector to improve food security

The Oyo State government, on Wednesday, assured the people of the state of its determination to revolutionise the agricultural sector to achieve improved food security, economic growth, and development.

The Director-General, Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, Dr. Debo Akande, gave the assurance during the inter-ministerial press briefing held at the Governor’s Briefing Room, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Akande stated that the present administration had successfully secured $ 170 million in agricultural projects through public-private international partnership arrangements and policies implemented in the agricultural sector.

The DG, who attributed food inflation to national policies, said sub-nationals and the country at large must chart the way forward from subsistence farming mechanisms, which would give rise to agricultural industrialisation for an improved economic engendering.

He noted that the approval of rural roads in some selected local government areas of the state, through the Rural Access Agriculture Market Projects (RAAMP), maintained that silos should not be made a priority, but rather efforts should be made to establish agriculture complementarism centres for food sufficiency, food processing, and enhanced exportation advantages.
