Summit advocates training, mentorship for youths

The need to build a generation of future-ready young Nigerians has been emphasised at the Relationship Entrepreneurship, Career Arts and Entertainment, Leadership and Politics (RECALP) 2025 Summit.

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Stephen Aribasoye, who highlighted the need for mentorship, said it was not enough to give young people resources if they lacked the mental and emotional readiness to use them well. He urged lawmakers to enact policies that create enabling environments for youth development and entrepreneurship.

According to him, it is not just about mobilising youth for activities but showing them achievable vision and working with them towards it. Past president of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Bayo Olugbemi, said the programme was designed to train, retrain, and empower youths across different facets of life, instil discipline, purpose and preparedness for the future.

“RECALP is about the total essence of man. We are raising a generation that understands the value of saving, investing, and thinking beyond the moment. If you cannot save N10 out of N100, you won’t save N10,000 when you earn a million. Whether you’re employed or self-employed, after giving to God, pay yourself; save, invest, and prepare for the future.”

He urged youths to think of retirement and independence from the first day they start working or running a business.

“Whatever you earn, think long-term. One day, you will become your employer. Prepare for that from day one,” he added.

Leadership expert and business consultant, Niyi Adesanya, challenged the youth to recognise their dominion mandate.

Adesanya stated that success is not based on general knowledge but on access to privileged information. He added: “Privileged information exists in privileged gatherings. If you want to grow, you must put yourself in spaces where you can learn what the average person doesn’t know.”

On how to attract finances to hips businesses, Adesanya explained: “Finance will always be a global issue, but before someone entrusts you with money, you must prove you can manage it. Build credibility first, money follows trust.”

The summit with the theme ‘From Dream to Reality,’ was organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lagos Province.
