A coalition of two pressure groups under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Kadangaren Bakin Tulu and Yan Takwas, have demanded the immediate dissolution of the party leadership in Kano.
The groups accused the Prince Abdullahi Abbas-led state executive of dictatorship whose utterances led to APC’s failure in the 2023 general election in the state.
A petition submitted to the Acting National Chairman of the party, Alh. Ali Bukar Dalori, in Abuja yesterday, sought the immediate dissolution of Kano executives under Abbas.
Abbas, a strong ally of former National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, had overwhelmed several threats against him in the past.
The renewed call for the dissolution of Abbas’ leadership came a few days after the resignation of Ganduje as the APC National Chairman. Signed by Nura Na’annabi, the group accused Abbas of dictatorship in running the affairs of the party in Kano, urging the National Chairman to act urgently.
Na’annabi said they decided to save the party from another defeat in the 2027 elections, adding that his unguarded utterances and dictatorship contributed to APC’s failure and defeat in the 2023 elections in Kano.
He said: “Abdullahi Abbas played a role which led to the defeat of the APC in the 2023 gubernatorial election. We are calling on you to act to avoid a repeat of the problems in 2027.”
Reacting to the petition, the State Secretary of the party, Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, accused the groups of mischief and trying to create confusion in the party.
Sarina insisted that the groups are ignorant of the party’s Constitution, which clearly spells out the tenure of the executive in office. He added that the leadership cannot be dissolved until the expiration of its tenure.
“Those calling for our dissolution are mischief makers and the intention is in bad faith. Besides, they are acting out of ignorance because our tenure will expire by August, and there is no way the national body will dissolve a state council until its time expires.”
