A Medical Expert, Dr. David Kajovo says, ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly vital, particularly in public health, where data-driven decisions can affect vulnerable populations.
Drawing from his experience as a technologist and champion of health equity, Dr David Kajovo added that his driving transformative change by developing AI models centered on justice, transparency, and inclusion.
According to him, ” My research build systems that do not further marginalize already underserved communities, rather than relying on centralized, bias-prone data sources, leverages federated learning and differential privacy-training methods that allow local clinics to contribute to AI model
development without exposing sensitive patient data.
“This decentralized approach empowers communities to maintain control while contributing meaningful knowledge to public health advancements”.
He noted that the model is already yielding measurable results, early testing detected unexpected spikes in non-communicable diseases in areas lacking health services, enabling timely interventions.
He stressed that, his involvement in an AI model led to a 40% increase in flu vaccination rates among elderly and migrant populations by factoring in overlooked barriers such as language, mobility, and socioeconomic status.
Dr. Kajovo also said his research work aimed at designing lightweight, open-source tools that function in low-bandwidth environments-making
advanced AI accessible even to remote clinics with limited infrastructure, Governments and international health organizations now consider his work a benchmark in ethical digital health.
He said “we remains focused on people and actively collaborating with Indigenous communities to localize AI models and incorporate culturally informed data practices, guided by Ubuntu’s African philosophy”.
