Reflect God’s light in action, conduct, Odedeji implores newly ordained priests

In furtherance of the gospel, the Diocese of Lagos West Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has ordained three new ministers at its 2025 Trinity Priesthood Ordination held on St. Peter’s Day at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Egbeda, Lagos.

Those ordained into the Holy Order of Priesthood presided by the Diocesan Bishop,The Rt. Rev.James Odedeji, included The Revd John Abiodun Lerry; The Revd Ezeh Isaiah Obi and The Revd Godwin Okechukwu Fredrick.
In his charge to the newly ordained priests, Bishop Odedeji urged all ministers of God to reflect the light of God in their actions and conducts, and not only on the pulpit.

The Bishop restated the sacred duties of their calling and the diligence that is required to function in the office.

Hesaid: “As Priests, it will be your task to proclaim by word and deed, the gospel of Jesus Christ; and to fashion your life in accordance with it’s precepts.”

Emphasising the importance of love and serving the people, Odedeji called the priests to love, serve and care for all, adding that they are to also declare God’s forgiveness to penitent sinners and to pronounce God’s blessings to all.

The Dean of the Cathedral, the Venerable Ebenezer Adewole, while preaching on the theme: “Come, Follow Me” taken from Matthew 4:19, charged the priests to embrace the calling of priesthood with unwavering obedience and humility, just as Peter and the early disciples did when Christ called them.

He reminded the priests that the call to priesthood is not one of convenience, but of sacrifice, discipline and lifelong commitment to shepherding the flock of Christ.

The Dean said that the church is not looking for perfect men, but willing men, who are teachable, obedient and led by the Spirit of God.

In her congratulatory message, Dr Lydia Olukemi Odedeji prayed that God’s presence will go with them in their assignment and charged their wives to embrace the calling together.

She said: “I am confident that God will continually uphold them and support their ministry in the church. More importantly, we will continue to encourage their wives to be beacons of light with motherly care and support.”

The service, marked by liturgical processions and thanksgiving was attended by the clergy and laity from across the Diocese, including families of the ordained priests and invited guests.
