.Makinde promises to prioritise workers’ welfare
The Trade Union Congress (TUC), yesterday, berated the Federal Government on the way it is handling the economy and welfare of Nigerians, saying people in government cannot be spending money frivolously but asking Nigerians to tighten their belts.
President-General of the TUC, Festus Osifo, who spoke during the opening ceremony of the two-day summit organised by the South-West states of the Congress, said the people in government must be serious about governance.
Osifo, therefore, called on the Federal Government to manage the economy well and lead by example.
The TUC President, who condemned the government’s plan to borrow from the pension funds, said: “Our pension funds must not be touched.”
Governor Seyi Makinde, who was represented by his deputy, Adebayo Lawal, said he would continue to prioritise the welfare of workers in the state.
Oyo State Chairman of TUC, Bosun Olanbiyi, said the economy needed to be repositioned.
