Oluwasayo Folarin: Shaping the Future of Energy Finance

In the rapidly evolving world of energy infrastructure, few professionals have demonstrated the depth of expertise, strategic foresight, and sustained impact that defined the career of Oluwasayo Folarin. With a foundation in civil engineering and a specialization in energy infrastructure investments, his work supports energy infrastructure investments across different verticals.

His journey began at the University of Ibadan, where he graduated with First Class Honours in Civil Engineering and earned national recognition as an NHEF Scholar; an award reserved for the top 1% of Nigerian students. His academic excellence laid the groundwork for a career that would bridge engineering and finance, culminating in an MBA in Corporate Finance and Energy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Oluwasayo’s influence in the energy sector comes not from attention-grabbing headlines but from the thoughtful frameworks he develops. Drawing from his engineering foundation and financial training, he works on transactions that shape the future of energy infrastructure investments while transforming lives.
At AES Corporation, a Fortune 500 energy company, Folarin works on mergers and acquisitions transactions for utility-scale energy projects in the U.S. Before that, he worked at Elektron Energy in Nigeria, where he helped structure financing for embedded power plants and hybrid systems and worked on the first commercially financed embedded power plant in Nigeria.

He has also served as a judge for global innovation competitions, including MIT Solve and the Conrad Challenge, evaluating energy and finance solutions proposed by emerging entrepreneurs. His selection as a Fellow of the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI), a prestigious U.S.-based initiative endorsed by the Department of Energy further highlights his significant progress in ongoing professional development.

His career is not just about deals, it’s about designing the financial pathways that make energy infrastructure investments possible. His work ensures that infrastructure isn’t just built, it’s bankable, resilient, and ready for the future. In every role, Sayo brings a quiet intensity focus on long-term impact over short-term gains. He doesn’t just work in energy; he works on energy’s future. And in doing so, he’s helping build a more resilient world.
