Ex-governor becomes ADC coordinator in Jigawa

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been inaugurated in Jigawa State with the former Deputy Governor, Alh. Ahmed Mahmud Gumel, as the party’s state coordinator.

Gumel emphasised the party’s commitment to building a just and equitable society, saying, “We call on Jigawa State people and all Nigerians to join hands with the party to create a better future for the country.”

Gumel highlighted the party’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria, emphasising the need for unity and collective effort to achieve the party’s goals. He noted that the ADC offers a viable alternative to Nigerians disillusioned with the current government.

According to him, the ADC coalition has been gaining traction nationwide, with several political groups and individuals defecting to the party. “The party’s leadership has welcomed these coalition developments, emphasising its commitment to building a robust and inclusive democratic process,” he said.

The newly appointed Jigawa ADC coordinator appealed to party members to desist from abusing leaders, whether in government or otherwise. “Such behaviour is not in line with our social and political ideology, nor is it the intention of the coalition movement to defeat the tyrannical administration of the APC-led government nationwide,” he said.

Gumel urged Nigerians, especially the youths, to continue praying for and supporting the coalition movement. “We assure you that we are ready to continue doing the needful to bring about positive change in our country,” he said.
He expressed confidence that with the support of the people, the ADC coalition would be able to achieve its goals and provide a better future for Nigerians.

Furthermore, Gumel expressed optimism about the coalition’s prospects, emphasising the need for Nigerians to demand better governance and accountability from their leaders.

Earlier, during a public gathering, the members of the executive leading the party in the state, led by Hon. Kabiru Hussaini, announced their stepping down to facilitate the successful takeover of the new team assigned to run the party’s affairs, as agreed upon by the coalition movement.

During the occasion, the Executive Council (Exco) declared its decision to step down as state executives and dissolved all other executives at the 27 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

Speaking shortly after relinquishing their positions, the former Jigawa State chairman of the ADC, Hon. Kabiru Hussaini said “this bold move was made to pave way for the successful taking over of the leadership of the party, as well as its structures, by the new members of the coalition led by the new state coordinator, Ahmed Mahmud Gumel.”

The outgoing chairman further explained that the development demonstrated the party’s commitment to growth and unity by making way for new leadership, which is expected to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the party’s operations in Jigawa State.

“With prominent politicians joining the coalition, the party is poised to challenge the APC’s dominance in the 2027 general elections,” he said.

Commenting on the occasion, a stalwart of the coalition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former member of the House of Representatives from Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa, Yankawashi federal constituency, Hon. Bashir Adamu, commended the party’s leadership for the appointment, saying it was a welcome development.

Adam emphasised the need for collective effort to achieve the party’s goals. “We must work together to build a strong presence in Jigawa State and challenge the APC’s dominance in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
