Hundreds of Ibadan residents have thronged the residence of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, to sympathise with the family over the passing of the 43rd traditional ruler of the ancient city.
The President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole, led many sons and daughters of the city to the Alalubosa GRA residence of the late monarch on Tuesday. Prince Osuolale Owolabi Olakulehin received the CCII delegation on behalf of the family.
Ajewole, while speaking, noted that the traditional ruler rose from nothing to become Olubadan. He added that the life and time of the traditional ruler were a lesson for everyone.
He said, “We thank God for the life of our great Oba. He rose from nothing to become the Olubadan. Our Kabiesi was a well-read individual, a former legislator, and a former military officer who fought for Nigeria’s unity. He made history as the first Olubadan to occupy the new palace. God knows the best. No doubt in my mind that Baba will rest in peace, because he did not do any bad thing to anyone. Many of my friends who knew him extolled his virtues. Many people thought that he would not ascend the throne. His life is a lesson for all of us. He laid out the good history. The first Olubadan to live at the new Olubadan palace. We did not record any problem in Ibadan during his short reign.”
