Lagos tasks teachers on adapting to students’ growing needs

• Begins three-day induction of newly recruited 1,500 teachers
• NGO launches academic competition for public primary school pupils

Chairman , Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Victoria Peregrino, has emphasised the importance of continuous learning for educators, urging them to keep pace with the evolving demands of the school system and adapt to the growing needs of students in a globalised world.

Peregrino, who spoke, yesterday, during the kick-off of a three-day induction for 1,500 newly recruited teachers, highlighted the focus of the programme aimed at addressing key issues in Lagos post-primary schools.

The programme is aimed at equipping about the teachers with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in their roles.

IN another development, no fewer than 2,000 pupils from 20 local councils across Lagos State have participated in the first stage of the SweetThinkers Initiative Academic Excellence Award, a competition designed to identify and support top-performing pupils in government-owned primary schools.

Representative of SweetThinkers Media and PR, Nnena Chinedu, said that the competition aimed to highlight the capacity of public school students when given the right support.

The examination, 100 questions in 30 minutes, was also designed to test time management skills. Desk Officer at the Ikeja Local Government Education Authority, Adinji Abidemi Monsurat, described the competition as well-organised and timely.

She acknowledged that most academic initiatives always tend to focus on private schools, and commended SweetThinkers for engaging pupils from public schools.
