Nigerian cyclist embarks on record-breaking journey as African People’s Records launches

A new chapter in African history has begun with the official launch of African People’s Records (APR), a pioneering platform created to recognise and celebrate measurable feats by Africans around the world.

In a historic moment, the platform has received its first-ever application from Nigerian cyclist Emmanuel “Emmiwuks” Myam, who has embarked on a daring solo bicycle expedition from Nigeria to the United States.

Emmiwuks is aiming to set the record for the “Most Countries Visited on a Single Bicycle Journey,” a challenge that could make him the first official record holder in APR’s history.

“This is not just a personal journey — it’s a message to every young African that our dreams are valid and achievable,” Emmiwuks told reporters before setting off from Lagos.

The ambitious adventurer plans to pedal across multiple African countries before eventually arriving in the U.S., relying solely on his determination and endurance. Though still in the early stages of the journey, Emmiwuks has already captured the imagination of many across the continent.

African People’s Records was created to fill a long-standing gap — to ensure that African achievements in sports, innovation, culture, endurance, and the arts are properly measured, verified, and honoured from an African perspective.

“For too long, African stories have been told from the outside. APR is about changing that by putting measurable, breakable African achievements at the centre of the narrative,” said an APR spokesperson.

Unlike traditional global record-keeping organisations, APR focuses on African-led validation of accomplishments that can be challenged and surpassed, giving future generations the chance to make their mark.

As the first name in APR’s official archive, Emmiwuks’ journey holds symbolic importance for the organisation’s mission and values. The platform expects many more record submissions in the coming months across various fields, including entrepreneurship, technology, arts, and sports.

“He represents the courage, creativity, and conviction of the African spirit. His journey is not just about cycling — it’s about legacy,” the spokesperson added.

With his wheels in motion and his sights set on a continental record, Emmiwuks is not just cycling toward a personal achievement — he is writing a new story of African determination, resilience, and pride.
