The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has raised the alarm over a viral voice note circulating on social media, which alleges that a group of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders, are plotting a violent attack on Task Force officials operating within the Kubwa area of Abuja.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, condemned the alleged plot and issued a stern warning to individuals or groups contemplating such actions.
“The command wishes to categorically state that such conduct amounts to criminality and will be met with the full weight of the law.”Any person or group involved in planning, instigating, or contemplating carrying out any form of violent protest or attack on law enforcement officials, under whatever guise, is hereby sternly warned to immediately abort such plans”, she said.
Adeh stressed that the FCT Police Command is fully prepared to deploy all lawful means to forestall any attempt to disrupt public order, including arrests, prosecution, and, where necessary, the use of force.
“This is not a threat but a firm assurance. The command has both the capacity and the resolve to protect public officers, safeguard lives and property, and ensure law and order within the Federal Capital Territory,” she emphasised.
As part of proactive measures, the police will be increasing the deployment of personnel and operational assets around the Kubwa axis on Friday, July 11.Adeh clarified that the deployments are preventive and should not be misconstrued as signs of unrest.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities, and cooperate with security agencies.
The police spokesperson also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity or individuals through the emergency numbers: 0803 200 3913 and 0806 158 1938.”The FCT Police Command remains committed to the protection of all residents.
“No individual or group will be allowed to undermine the peace and security of the Federal Capital Territory,” she said.
