Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to expanding access to clean and potable water across all households in the state, citing ongoing projects aimed at addressing long-standing water supply challenges.
In a statement posted Friday on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Governor Adeleke outlined steps taken since assuming office in November 2022 to tackle the water shortage affecting many parts of the state, especially rural areas.
He noted that one of the early achievements of his administration was the construction of 332 boreholes across all political wards within the first 100 days in office.
According to the governor, this effort was part of a broader strategy to meet Sustainable Development Goal 6, which calls for universal access to clean water and sanitation.
“We set out to address the acute shortage of clean water to residents of Osun State, most notably the rural dwellers,” Adeleke said. “With the successful completion of construction of 332 boreholes… we have followed it up with strategic upgrade and renovation of several waterworks in the state.”
He further disclosed that the ongoing renovation of the Ora Igbomina Waterworks—expected to supply water to five or more local governments in Osun Central—is nearing completion. Similarly, the rehabilitation of the Iwo Waterworks is underway, with the aim of serving residents in the Iwo Federal Constituency.
“These milestones mark another step in our quest to ensure every household in Osun enjoys clean water,” he stated.
The governor expressed appreciation to residents for their support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its five-point agenda, under which water access remains a key focus.
