Local government elections in Lagos State got off to a slow start in several areas today, with officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) notably absent from many polling units in Ikotun, Igando, and Iba.
Despite the absence of electoral officials, some voters and party agents were observed patiently waiting at these locations for the voting process to commence. The delay raised concerns among those eager to cast their ballots in the crucial local council elections.
A visit to the Egbe Idimu Local Council Development Area Secretariat, around 7 am, revealed that LASIEC officials had already departed the premises, presumably en route to their designated polling units. This suggests a potential disconnect between dispatch and arrival times at various locations.
In contrast to the widespread delays, polling units in Iyana Ejigbo appeared to be well-prepared. LASIEC officials were reportedly set up and awaiting the arrival of voters, indicating a smoother process in that particular area.
Despite the initial hitches with deploying electoral officials, security measures appeared to be robust across the visited areas. The promised adequate security by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, was evident, with police officers seen at various strategic points, including Iyana Ejigbo, Ikotun, Igando, Iba, and Isheri. This strong security presence aims to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process throughout the day.
