Awujale to be buried today in Ijebu-Ode at 4pm — Ogun govt

The Ogun State Government has announced that the burial rites for the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, will take place today at his residence in Ijebu-Ode.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, the interment will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Ogbagba Court, Igbeba, the traditional ruler’s official residence.

Oba Adetona died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 91. His passing marks the end of one of the longest reigns in modern Yoruba traditional leadership.

In the statement, Talabi called on residents to keep the monarch’s family in their thoughts and prayers as they observe the final rites. He did not disclose whether further official ceremonies would follow the burial.

The late Awujale had ruled Ijebuland for several decades and was widely regarded for his role in preserving cultural heritage and engaging with both traditional and political institutions across Nigeria.
