The Ondo State chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun Corps, says it foiled five kidnap attempts across the state within a two-week period.
The State Commander of the corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Wednesday in Akure while addressing journalists. He said the kidnappings were thwarted without any ransom being paid.
According to Adeleye, the most recent incident occurred on Monday when a community chief and a commercial motorcyclist were abducted near Akure. He said prompt action followed a distress call and, working with local hunters, Amotekun personnel tracked and rescued the victims overnight.
“In the Akoko area, some kidnappers invaded farms, raped women and kidnapped individuals between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. along Ajegunle Road. Within 48 hours, we secured their release and arrested three suspects identified as members of the gang,” he said.
The commander also reported successful arrests in the state’s Central senatorial district, where victims identified several individuals apprehended by the corps.
“Today, we have a total of 17 suspects in custody: eight for disrupting public order, three for kidnapping, and six involved in robbery and rape,” Adeleye said.
He added that farmers-herders clashes in the state had significantly declined, attributing the progress to improved intelligence and community cooperation.
Adeleye called on residents to continue supporting the corps with timely information and pledged closer collaboration with other security agencies to sustain peace across the state.
