Galaxy Backbone to aid FG’s paperless civil service goal by Dec 2025

The Federal Government is intensifying efforts to transition to a fully paperless civil service by the end of 2025, with the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, seeking deeper collaboration with Galaxy Backbone Limited to support the digital transformation of public administration.

During a working visit to the agency’s National Shared Services Centre and Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, Walson-Jack, accompanied by senior officials from her office and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, assessed the technical capacity of Galaxy Backbone in supporting large-scale digital reforms across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

“Our visit reinforces the confidence that, with the infrastructure and support of Galaxy Backbone, the goal of achieving a fully paperless civil service by December 31, 2025, is achievable,” Walson-Jack said, according to a statement issued by Galaxy Backbone’s Head of Corporate Communications, Chidi Okpala.

The visit involved tours of key facilities such as the Network Operations Centre, Security Operations Centre, and the Tier III Data Centre—all components of a nationwide ICT backbone intended to secure and streamline digital government operations.

Walson-Jack highlighted several areas where closer cooperation with Galaxy Backbone would be critical. These include the implementation of the “1Government Cloud” platform to consolidate MDA operations, adoption of Enterprise Content Management Systems to automate administrative processes, and integration between the 1Government Cloud Academy and the Civil Service Academy to strengthen digital skills among civil servants.

She also pointed to new platforms like Service-Wise GPT, an AI-powered tool for public service delivery, as part of the evolving digital strategy.

The Head of Service also commended Galaxy Backbone’s role in projects such as the War Room initiative, deployment of GovMail for over 34,000 civil servants, and support for high-speed internet during the 2025 International Civil Service Week.

Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the civil service as “the engine room of governance,” adding that the agency’s infrastructure—now extended to 28 states—positions it to scale further support across the country.

“We are committed to providing the technology backbone for the civil service and broader public sector to meet the demands of modern governance,” Adeyanju said.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications, Mr. Adeladan Olarinre, called the engagement an opportunity to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and showcase progress on the government’s digital agenda.

Also speaking during the visit, Galaxy Backbone’s Executive Director for Finance and Corporate Services, Mohammed Sani, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting the federal government’s vision for inclusive and sustainable e-governance.

Galaxy Backbone operates under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and provides digital infrastructure, cloud services, and secure connectivity for public institutions.
