Oyo State Deputy Governor, Adebayo Lawal, has paid a sympathetic visit to Igboho community in Oorelope Local Government Area, following a devastating rainstorm that caused widespread damage in the area.
During the visit, Lawal met with traditional rulers, including the Alepata of Igboholand, Oba (Dr) Joel Olalere Olawuwo, and the Onigboho of Igboho Kingdom, Oba John Oyetola Bolarinwa Olubiyi II (Ajagungbade I). The deputy governor directed the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused by the storm to facilitate timely government intervention and relief efforts for affected residents.
The deputy governor expressed relief that no lives were lost in the incident but noted the extensive destruction of properties, including electrical infrastructure and the roofs of several residential buildings. He emphasised the importance of collective efforts in disaster response and urged other local government chairmen in the Oke-Ogun zone to rally together in support of the affected areas.
He also warned youths in the community against actions that could cause disunity, cautioning that anyone found inciting unrest would face the full force of the law. He stressed the importance of unity and cooperation in the face of adversity.
The deputy governor promised that the state would support the affected residents and facilitate relief efforts, reaffirming commitment to addressing citizens’ needs and providing assistance during crises.
